Sixth International Bosphorus Film Festival to host 88 films from 41 countries

The Sixth International Bosphorus Film Festival began Friday in Istanbul with nearly 90 films competing.

The festival is organized with the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry and General Directorate of Cinema. Anadolu Agency is its global communications partner.

The event kicked off with 'The Old Man and The Gun' -- a 2018 American crime comedy written and directed by American filmmaker David Lowery.

The festival, which runs through Nov. 3, will host 88 films from 41 countries and the winners will receive at least 400,000 Turkish liras ($71,500) in prize money.

Participants will be awarded in the categories of national feature film, international feature film and short film.

The festival is hosting Leila Hatami and Payman Maadi, two of the most distinguished actors of Iranian cinema.

Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa, Portuguese film producer Paulo Branco and Bent Hamer, a film director, writer and producer from Norway, are also among the participants.
