Eden Alexander, last known living US hostage in Gaza, is set to be released on Monday

Israeli-American captive Edan Alexander will travel to Qatar to meet US President Donald Trump after his release from Gaza, his family said on Monday.

Alexander, the last known living US hostage held in Gaza, is scheduled to be released by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Monday.

A family source told Israeli Channel 12 that after his release, Alexander will fly to Qatar to meet Trump there.

Trump is scheduled to arrive in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday in his first stop of his Middle East tour, which will also include visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Trump's envoy for hostage affairs, Adam Boehler, and Alexander's parents arrived in Israel early Monday ahead of the soldier's release.

Trump said Sunday that Hamas' forthcoming release of Alexander marks a "step taken in good faith" towards the US and regional mediators, signaling that it might be the first of the "final steps" needed to end Israel's war.

According to Hamas, the soldier's release would be among several steps aimed at facilitating a ceasefire, reopening border crossings, and allowing humanitarian aid and relief supplies into the Gaza Strip.

Nearly 52,900 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
