A Turkish couple, both of whom are police officers, were wed on Thursday and forever bound to each other with a pair of handcuffs, breaking from tradition at their wedding ceremony in northwestern Turkey.
Groom Muhammed Mustafa Ayhan, who fell in love with the bride Merve Kılıç while they were students at the police academy, asked the love of his life via a police radio whether she wanted to marry him before the ceremony, and Kılıç once more replied “yes” through the walkie-talkie.
After they were officially wed and had signed on the dotted line, their police commissioner handcuffed them together, conveying his good wishes to the happy couple.
The modest ceremony continued with congratulations from their relatives and friends, all abiding by rules of social distancing, but the most dazzling congratulations came from dolphin teams (police officers on motorcycles in Turkey) who performed a jaunty motorcycle show for the couple.
