As many as 70 academics have been detained as a part of the investigation against the coupist Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) over using the Bylock program, a cell phone application that has been used by the terrorist organization since 2014 for conducting secret writing and messaging.
The operation was led by the İstanbul Police Department and arrest warrants were issued for 103 academics, which pay duty at Istanbul's Yıldız Technical University over request of Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office.
Turkey has been conducting an extensive investigation on FETÖ following the coup bid of July 15, which targeted the democratically-elected Turkish government.
More than 40,000 people were detained in the investigation following the coup bid and 80,000 were removed from public duty in post-coup bid purges.
The coup bid was led by Fetullah Gülen, the leader of FETÖ, who is currently in the U.S.
Turkey has been demanding the immediate extradition of the terrorist leader from the U.S. as the talks continue between the two countries.
