500 Turkish Lira has been found in the coat of the gunman responsible for Istanbul's New Years Eve terror attack
In a New Years Eve terror attack at one of Istanbul's most popular nightclubs, Reina, 39 people lost their lives and 65 were wounded, four of whom are in critical condition.
How the gunman managed to escape is still under investigation, as he came to the club alone.
Police have barricaded the Kuruçeşme neighborhood, where the attack occurred.
Investigators have analyzed security footage and concluded from the way he held the gun and the type of gun that the gunman most likely had military training.
Security footage has revealed that after the attack, the gunman took off his coat and escaped by taking advantage of the chaos and blending into the crowd.
The gunman used a Kalashnikov rifle, and it is estimated that at least 180 bullets were fired. Six empty clips were found at the site of the attack. Security footage captured the gunman's entry to Reina as well as the entire attack.
Reports by Habertürk indicate that the gunman told the taxi driver he had no money on his way to Kuruçeşme, and so was dropped off in front of Reina. Five hundred Turkish lira was found in the gunmans coat.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. At least 27 foreign nationals from India to Canada, and many from the Middle East, have been reported as casualties.
Over the past year, Turkey has endured a slew of major attacks by the terrorist organizations PKK and Daesh.
