China's Guangdong launches 30 AI applications to boost tech growth and public services

China's southern province of Guangdong has rolled out 30 artificial intelligence (AI) application cases aimed at accelerating tech innovation and improving public services across key sectors, state-run media has reported.

The AI application scenarios target four major areas: manufacturing, education, healthcare, and public safety, reflecting China's broader strategy to lead in global AI development, according to Xinhua on Wednesday.

In education, Guangdong outlined five key AI application domains -- including personalized learning, smart teaching, digital experimentation, resource allocation, and AI-driven assessment and decision-making tools.

The healthcare sector will see 10 targeted applications of AI, such as AI-assisted imaging diagnostics, clinical decision support, surgical planning, outpatient triage systems, and virtual medical consultations.

Officials from Guangdong's Department of Industry and Information Technology emphasized that the region has strong capabilities in mechanical, electrical, and advanced digital technologies. The province also has a robust industrial base supporting AI and robotics and plans to encourage further commercialization of services and products developed by enterprises in these fields.

It also possesses a comprehensive industrial chain for AI and robotics, and will support the industrialization of technologies, the commercialization of services, and the marketization of products for AI and robotics enterprises.

The initiative coincides with growing competition among Chinese tech firms, with Alibaba and DeepSeek making strides in generative AI. According to the South China Morning Post, Alibaba's new Qwen 3 AI models have recently outperformed DeepSeek's R1 in multiple benchmark tests, positioning them as the leading open-source AI models globally.
