Beijing opposes and condemns ‘all moves that harm civilians and violate international law,' says Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun

China on Monday condemned the Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza, noting that Beijing stands against Tel Aviv's violation of international law.

“We oppose and condemn all moves that harm civilians and violate international law,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing.

“Civilians should not become the target of attacks and the safety of international humanitarian workers should not be threatened,” the spokesman added.

His remarks came after Israeli forces killed at least 93 Palestinians and injured more than 100 in attacks Sunday across the Gaza Strip, adding to the growing humanitarian crisis.

“We hope parties will reach a ceasefire arrangement, calm down the situation, and alleviate the humanitarian crisis as soon as possible,” he added.

Israel has killed nearly 59,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, collapsed the health system, and led to severe food shortages.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
