Austria hammered Türkiye 6-1 in an international football friendly Tuesday held in Vienna.
Playing in the center of the park, Xaver Schlager scored an early opener for the hosts.
It was canceled out however by Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who converted a penalty successfully in the 25th minute at Ernst-Happel Stadium.
But Türkiye were unable to stop the hosts' forward Michael Gregoritsch for the rest of the game as the Austrian player completed a hat-trick after scoring from a penalty in the 59th minute. He previously scored in the 44th and 48th minutes.
Turkish forward Baris Alper Yilmaz scored in the 73rd minute, but his goal was disallowed after a VAR review. Austrian right-back Stefan Posch was brought down in the penalty area before Yilmaz scored for Türkiye, so the referee awarded Austria another penalty.
Christoph Baumgartner made it 5-1 from the white spot in the 78th minute.
A close-range header by the home team's Maximilian Entrup beat Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir in stoppage time as Austria took a big win at home.
Both Austria and Türkiye have been preparing for this summer's EURO 2024 in Germany.
Last week, Hungary defeated Türkiye 1-0 in a friendly in Budapest.
