Security forces confiscate rhino horns from luggage of 2 transit passengers at Ataturk Airport
Security forces seized 21 rhinoceros horns at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport in Turkey, an official statement said on Friday.
According to the Trade Ministry, the customs guards screened the luggages of two transit passengers traveling from South Africa to Vietnam in an X-ray scanner upon suspicion.
The anti-smuggling squads seized the materials, including a rhinoceros horn fragment and some predator animal nails, as the suspects lacked a required certification for the trade of endangered creatures.
With an estimated market value of $2.75, the materials were handed in to officials.
