'Saudi Arabia wants to reopen its embassy in Kabul as soon as possible,' says spokesman for interim Afghan government
Afghanistan's interim administration announced Sunday that Saudi Arabia intends to reopen its embassy in the capital Kabul.
"Saudi Arabia wants to reopen its embassy in Kabul as soon as possible," interim government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on X.
Mujahid, who is in Doha, Qatar for a UN meeting on Afghanistan, said that prior to the meeting, the Afghan delegation met with the Saudi delegation and held "a constructive dialogue."
The Saudi representatives informed the Afghan side that Saudi Arabia "wanted good interaction with Afghanistan and Afghanistan sees Saudi Arabia as an important country," he added.
Following the change in Afghanistan's administration on Aug. 15, 2021, many countries had closed their embassies in Kabul. The reopening of the Saudi embassy will mark a significant development in the diplomatic landscape of the region.
