East Azerbaijan governor says Israeli attacks hit multiple sites in the province
At least 30 military personnel and one Red Crescent staff member were killed and 55 others injured in Israeli attacks on Iran's northeast province of East Azerbaijan, according to Iranian state media.
East Azerbaijan Governor Behram Sarmast told state television that Israel struck 19 locations across the province, mainly in the city of Tabriz.
Sarmast said the attacks hit 12 sites in Tabriz, with additional strikes in the counties of Bostanabad, Shabestar, Azarshahr, Maragheh, and Turkmenchay.
Israeli forces attacked Iran early Friday, hitting nuclear and missile facilities and killing top military commanders and leading scientists, among others.
Iran responded with missiles Friday night, targeting several areas across Israel.
Israeli strikes on Iranian cities and facilities continued on Saturday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier said the military operation will continue as long as necessary.
