Suspects are accused of having links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization

At least 14 people have been arrested across Turkey on Sunday for their suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the group behind last year’s defeated coup, according to a security official.

In northwestern Edirne province, six FETÖ suspects -- including a former academician from Istanbul University, another from Istanbul Technical University, a former soldier, a former police chief and a former teacher -- were held at the Turkey-Greece border during a patrol in a military zone.

Separately, police arrested eight FETÖ-linked suspects in different provinces -- including capital Ankara, Istanbul, Corum and Samsun -- as part of the probe launched by Tokat province’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into the terrorist group’s structure in Turkish Armed Forces.

FETÖ and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup on July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETÖ of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
