Beijing’s remarks come after US President Donald Trump announced ‘massive’ trade deal with Japan

China on Wednesday called for a "sound environment" for international trade and economic cooperation in light of the $550 billion trade agreement between the US and Japan.

“China, as always, believes that all parties should solve economic and trade disagreements through equal-footed dialogue and consultation and uphold a sound environment for international trade and economic cooperation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a news conference in Beijing.

The spokesman's remarks came after US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a “massive” trade deal with Japan, which is the world’s fifth-largest economy.

"We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

"Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits," he added, noting that Tokyo will now pay 15% “reciprocal tariffs” to the US, down from the previous 25%.
