Victim and villain

For the ones that grew up in tough geographies, the tendency of sacrificing yourself for someone is quite strong. Life conditions are difficult when the government, as well as not doing their part, sees their own citizens as "enemy". For a family to prepare a new life for all their children is impossible and some sacrifices are needed. Great heroics are expected from "Small" people, or more precisely, the life imposes this on them. Any rebellion against this imposition will be branded as "irresponsibility". Naturally, no one can think about their lives nor desires nor objectives and even think that, the opposite of this situation, is a shame.

Nothing is black and white… White became dirty the day it fell from the paradise to earth and white"s contamination spread on black"s tone and realized the hybridize which will give us the surprises of life.

In other words, the confusing nature of humans -- good and bad -- is our existence, which swing like a pendulum between the devil and the angel…

A world that puts us through paradise on some day and hell on another…

Other than a "happy minority", in reality, Turkey was a country where everyone was condemned to be a victim in order to exist. In the days, in which, a brother will have to drop school and start working so his other brother can study, unwanted marriages are made so "one" plate will be less on the dinner table, in order to feed their families at the village their kids will fall preys to the savage forests at the suburbs of cities… In which, Krikor can only do business under the name of "Kenan", an Alevi was forced to live as a Kemalist Sunni, a Sunni was forced to live like a secular… Yes, in those days everyone was forced to be a hero, in other words a "victim".

My dear friend Can Paker, during a panel in Tokat, which we both attended, had said "I didn"t have any other option than to be successful as being someone from the lucky minority. Opportunity equality was nonexistent and everything was laid in front of a privileged minority".

Conscience is this kind of thing… In these recent days, in which many are hanging on to coups in order to protect their class" privileges, speaking of such words requires a brilliant conscience as much as bravery. Fortunately, this conscience exists in most of the citizens of this country. Disregard the barks and the efforts to play with the perception gauges, which come from a small minority.

Psychology creates defense mechanisms during difficult situations. The mind, by deactivating some parts that are relevant during good times, opens the lids of some other parts that are important for a fight. For example, our character becomes tough during difficult times and away from home there is no place for sensuality and soft characters. Adrenaline is on high levels and the body will be attuned to these difficult times until the threat is vanished. Even though there isn"t any threat, the mind will create such situation to keep itself alarmed and discharge the fight energy with these "Panic Attacks". The "Safety" feeling steps back and the "Doubt" feelings replaces it. "Conversation" gives way to a fight. Being seen as emotional is life threatening, because of this we want to look like a tough one. If we don"t have the required personality to do so, we will step back and consent to being defrauded in most cases and we won"t enter fights that we think we"ll lose. In this way, we will stay alive.

Nothing is white or black.

During long-lasting difficult times, these precautions, which are temporary principally, becomes the character of the, individual, congregation, country and the whole community.

When these difficult times become to change quality and when the century long problems and conditions begin to become history, this "character" will stand as an obstacle in front of us. When something we only dreamed of is actualized, it"s expected that festiveness will surround everywhere. But things are not that simple.

Something weird will happen at some point of this adaptation to the long molestation period. The victim will accredit the tyrant with invincibility because the molestation is humiliating and major, the objections against the tyrants are oppressed with severity and there are no hopes left. This is done in order to protect his/her pride. If the villain is really invincible, it wouldn"t be mentioned that the victim, who couldn"t beat the villain, is a coward and insufficient. After the 12 September Coup of 1980, this tendency was seen between our leftwing supporter friends. They were convinced that the army is unbeatable and when they tried to produce a hero story out of a defeat, they got condemned to rhetoric. Just as they produced a legend out of the Taksim scandalum on May 1, 1977.

At the beginning, the sacrificial establishment, which is a precaution, a way of struggle, had transformed into a character. This type of character fears "change" the most. It assumes that, the change, will unmask all their frauds. If the villain, whom they accredited with invincibility, is being overthrown, especially if other neighborhood residents do it, they will devote themselves to pursue the regime of the villain.

There is no unfair thing more than producing shame to ourselves from the cruelty directed on us by the villain. But backing up the villain when he is shaking, can create a situation that will really make us feel ashamed.
