The world’s focus has been on the Russia-Ukraine war since February. Many countries implemented economic sanctions against Russia upon U.S. direction following Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s military operation order. Yet, though Russia was pressed by the sanctions, it did not step back as Putin used the energy card against EU countries. The clear reason why the invasion operation that launched in February still continues seems to be Putin’s success in using the energy crisis as a weapon against adversary countries. Additionally, the setback in shipments from the two countries that are the world's top grains exporters, gave rise to a food crisis. As the world started to panic with the start of the energy and food crisis, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan went into records as the leader who carried out the diplomacy traffic in war, and achieved success at the negotiation table. While numerous European countries analyzed Türkiye’s success, U.S. newspaper The Hill added a new one to these.
It is stated that Türkiye achieved a diplomatic victory in the war whose repercussions are ongoing in global politics. The Hill analysis published with the title, “Keeping Türkiye on the right side of the battle between US and Russia,’ underlines Türkiye’s significance. The article stating that Türkiye led the peace negotiations, as well as the grains shipments, says Türkiye “must be returned to the Western fold.” It is further stated that “Recent revelations of deepening Russo-Turkish economic ties despite the Ukraine war forces the U.S. to reckon with Russia’s wider strategy.” The Hill analysis discusses Türkiye’s role in the war and its aftermath. While it is stated in the analysis that the White House can no longer ignore these realities, it is also cautioned that “Türkiye must be returned to the Western fold. The U.S. must apply the inducements, positive and negative, necessary to ensure Turkish compliance.” Referring to Türkiye’s vast military technological power and strategic importance, the newspaper explained Moscow’s desire to reverse Ankara’s political-strategic orientation as, "a solid member of a hostile maritime coalition — NATO — Türkiye is a mortal and historic threat to Russia.” Claiming that Russia hopes to "peel Türkiye away from the Western camp, thereby opening an unchallenged maritime route from Sevastopol to the Eastern Mediterranean,” The Hill pointed out that the U.S. should modify the geopolitical situation to remove the incentives Russia has created for reorientation, and to support Ukraine in its liberation of the Crimean Peninsula.
Türkiye’s economy continues to grow despite the economic bottleneck around the world and the country’s rising inflation. Following The Economist’s recent analysis regarding the matter, another analysis came from Bloomberg. The analysis mentioned President Erdoğan’s economic model as well. It is said that President Erdoğan advocates an economic model, which prioritizes export, production, and recruitment at the cost of price stability and currency. It was additionally noted that Erdoğan has great confidence in national companies and his people with respect to overcoming inflation.
The article underscores that Türkiye’s growth rates outdid countries such as China, Germany, the U.K., and France. In addition to noting Türkiye’s increasing touristic activity, it is said, “Developing tourism, foreign arrivals and their spending, which increased this year more than 100 percent until now, provided additional support.” Meanwhile, Bloomberg pointed to the Turkish Statistical Institute’s (TUIK) current statements for a complete and comprehensive analysis. TUIK announced its growth figures for the second quarter of 2022. Accordingly, Türkiye’s economy grew 7.6 percent in the second quarter of the year.
U.S.-based Foreign Policy magazine published Türkiye’s achievements on the cover. The intriguing Türkiye analysis gives as an example to the West Türkiye’s diplomacy in numerous fields, ranging from security cooperation with Ukraine to energy cooperation with Russia. As the only country capable of getting Russia and Ukraine to sit at the negotiation table, Türkiye is giving the world a diplomacy lesson. The world has been able to take a deep breath thanks to Türkiye solving the grain crisis. The analysis, which states it was Türkiye’s diplomacy that facilitated grain shipment from the Ukraine port, says, “Ankara’s approach presents lessons to the West about how to deal with Russia.”
The analysis praises Ankara’s determined and independent position against Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership. It is stated that though Türkiye is a critical member of the NATO security bloc, it acts independently of its American and European allies, and sometimes against them. The analysis not only points out that Türkiye strengthened its position as a regional power under Erdoğan’s leadership, but it also presents Türkiye’s diplomatic success, grain corridor victory, and economic growth as an example to Western countries. Let it be known by the terrorist state U.S. president and congress!
