Iraq: Lots of Reasons to Kill But What About to Su

Although it is varies by organization, the number of deaths during the seven year invasion of Iraq is counted in the hundreds of thousands while the casualties and forced immigrants are declared to be millions .Even if last year's rates show a relative decline in the amount of violence in Iraq , the situation is not bright at all. Because the state building process has failed, there are very serious security gaps in Iraq. Besides, the future withdraw of America from Iraq will generate other new problems in terms of the instability of Iraq. The American powers that overthrew Saddam Hussein in 2003 have not made any progress in the reconstruction of Iraq despite all these years.

Leaving stability aside, the Iraqis are in such a situation that they almost miss Saddam Hussein. The expression 'Out of the frying pan into the fire.' must have been invented for the current tragic situation of the Iraqi people.

Today, the Kurds in northern Iraq, Shiites in the south, Sunnis in the central and western regions of Iraq and also the Baathists are supposed to reach a successful result by arm wrestling. If the Kurdish region is kept apart, each side of Iraq is in for big problems. Iraq, where everyone has a reason to kill someone, is living in perhaps the worst period since the Mongol invasion.

In my opinion, a better future for the Iraqis, would be possible after a mentality transformation. It is important to carry out life that is centered on survival and sustenance instead of an approach that tries to solve every problem that is created inside or outside of Iraq by pumping guns into the country.

The Reconstruction of Iraq: Turkey is the Key Country

So how can the culture of sustenance be implemented in such a country where it is so easy to produce justifications to kill someone? The method for this would be for people to get tired of killing each other and to be convinced of meaninglessness of the extant solutions in the country. An exhausted Iraqi society could focus on the sustenance projects. External influence and assistance are extremely important for implementing these kinds of projects. Turkey is one of the countries that could help to implement the sustenance project for which the Iraqi people have been waiting a long time. This is why Turkey has diffused its investments in Iraq and has depended on its soft power. In many areas such as health, education, infrastructure, agriculture and irrigation, Turkey has been cooperating with Iraq. Notice that, international analysts show Turkey as the foremost among the winners in Iraq in recent years. Turkey's choice not to take sides in the internal conflicts of Iraq and not to put even a cork gun into the country is the secret of Turkey's winning power. Turkey is a country that gains the support from all sides of Iraq and communicates with all of them.

The Biggest Problem is the PKK

The biggest factor that limits Turkey's contributions to Iraq and creates a risk for the future of Iraq is the presence of the PKK terrorist organization in this country. The Kurdish region in the north which has been defined as relatively stable up until now, will not able to continue to protect its privileges if the PKK cannot be purged. In that sense, the consideration of the Regional Kurdish administration that Turkey does not notice the dishonest behavior of the Kurds in relations with the PKK is one of the most important reasons. However, Turkey is aware of the situation, through it is showing forbearance. If Ankara, which has the power to extinguish the fire of Iraq, cannot play a constructive role, the Kurdish government will undoubtedly remain in the flames of this fire. The regional government of Iraq must realize that a significant part of the hopes that they expect from the Washington are actually in the hand of Ankara. The ones who have interests in Turkey's new vision that the violence must not come to be the fate of Middle East are the ones who suffer the most from conflicts. Undoubtedly, the Kurds are among them.
