First auction held to start electricity supply to Moldova as of Tuesday, says Ukraine’s power grid operator

Ukraine’s power grid operator on Monday announced that it began holding auctions for the export of electricity to Europe, the first of which was held on Monday to start the supply to neighboring Moldova as of Tuesday.

“According to the results of the auction, 51% (330 out of 650 MW) of all available capacity of networks in this direction was distributed among four participants,” a statement by Ukrenergo said on Telegram.

Ukrenergo said that access to interstate crossings is currently allocated only for a short-term period in daily auctions due to the Russia-Ukraine war and related risks.

“In addition, an auction will be held today for the allocation of 80 MW of capacity of the interstate crossing in the direction of Poland for the delivery date of April 12. The possibility of opening exports to Slovakia is also currently being negotiated,” the statement said.

On Friday, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry announced that the country will resume electricity exports to Europe in cases of surplus.
