At least 1 person killed and several injured, but no word yet on nature of explosion
A massive explosion took place near an international airport in Pakistan's commercial capital Karachi late Sunday night, killing at least one person and injuring several others, police and local media reported.
Footage on local broadcaster Geo News showed giant plumes of fire coming from several damaged vehicles blowing upwards as firefighters struggled to douse the blaze.
Rescue officials confirmed that one person was killed and five others were injured in the blast.
The home minister for the Sindh province, which includes the port city of Karachi, told reporters that according to an initial investigation, the blast was from an improvised explosive device.
The explosion was heard miles away from the airport.
All airport installations are safe, authorities said.
