60 attack drones, 5 missiles downed by air defenses, says Ukraine's Air Force commander
At least seven people were killed in Ukraine on Tuesday as Russia conducted large-scale airstrikes on multiple regions for the second day in a row.
Ukraine's Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Telegram that the country's air defenses downed 60 out of 81 attack drones and five out of 10 various types of missiles launched by Russia overnight.
Oleshchuk said that air defenses worked in most of the country's regions, including the Kyiv region that surrounds the country's capital.
He added that a Russian drone flew off course and crossed into neighboring Belarus.
Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said on Telegram that debris from falling drones was recorded in forested areas in the capital's Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, three people were killed and four others injured after a missile struck a hotel in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Governor Serhii Lysak said.
Lysak said on X that 14 high-rise buildings were also damaged in the city and that a man also died in the city of Marhanets.
Meanwhile, Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov also said on Telegram that three people died and five were injured following Russian airstrikes in the region.
“We will undoubtedly respond to Russia for this and all other attacks,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that it launched a group strike against “critical airfield infrastructure facilities” in Ukraine.
“All designated targets were hit,” the statement added.
