Hakan Fidan will also attend MIKTA meeting on sidelines of G-20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Rio de Janeiro
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan departed for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Tuesday to attend a G-20 Foreign Ministers Meeting.
The Feb 21-22 meeting, which will be hosted by Brazil, which is holding the G-20 presidency in 2024, will focus on the G-20's role in overcoming international challenges and in global governance reform.
During the meeting, the foreign ministers will also address the Russia-Ukraine War and Israel's attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Fidan will draw attention to the ongoing atrocities and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
He will also highlight the necessity to reform the global governance platforms, particularly the UN Security Council, and share Türkiye's views on how to make global governance "more democratic and effective."
On the sidelines of the meeting, Fidan will participate in the 25th MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, Australia) Foreign Ministers Meeting.
At its core, the G-20 is an intergovernmental forum primarily concerned with economic issues made up of the world's 20 largest economies – 19 countries and the European Union. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues.
The member states are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the UK and the US.
