Thousands of people march through London demanding end to war in Ukraine

Thousands of people marched through central London on Saturday in solidarity with Ukrainians, whose country has faced a war by Russian forces for just over a month now.

The demonstrators demanding an end to the war gathered in Park Lane, and the procession marched through London before reaching the iconic Trafalgar Square.

The rally on Saturday came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on people across the globe to demonstrate against Russia.

The demonstration organized by London Mayor Sadiq Khan saw the attendance of Londoners, Ukrainians, and Belarusians.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which began on Feb. 24, has met international outrage, with the EU, US and UK, among others, implementing tough financial sanctions on Moscow.

At least 1,081 civilians have been killed in Ukraine and 1,707 injured, according to UN estimates, while cautioning that the true figure is likely far higher.

More than 3.7 million Ukrainians have also fled to neighboring countries, with millions more displaced inside the country, according to the UN refugee agency.
