The twin bomb attacks that hit Istanbul province of Turkey claim 44 lives, Turkish Minister Akdağ says

Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdağ has said that the death toll rose to 44 following the bomb attacks of Saturday which hit Istanbul.

"Thirty-six of the total martyred are police officers and the remaining are civilians," Akdağ said.

Two separate blasts took place in Istanbul on Saturday night, 45 seconds apart, with one of the bombs self-detonated by a suicide bomber in central Beşiktaş district's Maçka Park, and the other, a car bomb that was detonated in a nearby street.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists have claimed responsibility for the attacks of Saturday that hit the Turkish province of Istanbul and left 38 people killed.

Earlier on Sunday, Ankara officials said the initial findings show that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists are behind the Istanbul attacks.
