Avianca's decision comes amid restrictions imposed by US
Colombian airline Avianca suspended flights to Cuba in compliance with U.S. restrictions on Thursday.
The company's decision came after Trump administration banned American flights to the Caribbean country, except to Havana, last Friday.
According to Florida daily El Nueva Herald, the measure was taken because Avianca Holdings constituted this month a limited liability company in the U.S. to obtain a loan, which is subject to the regulations of that country.
"Avianca Holdings informs that while resolving a pending issue with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), related to the commercial operation to Cuba, the company will suspend the sale of tickets to and from Cuba as of 31 October 2019," the company said in a statement.
The airline currently has a daily flight to Havana from Bogota and another from San Salvador, which will continue to operate.
