Two top commanders of the Daesh terrorist group in northern Syria have been killed in Turkish military attack, security sources say
Turkish Armed Forces had intensified its anti-Daesh operations in Syria and Iraq following a deadly suicide attack in the heart of Istanbul's historical Sultanahmet district.
The security sources said at least two top commanders of the terrorist group have been killed.
Daesh's Northern Aleppo Field Commander Abu Human al-Zaqawi, who has been controlling a roughly 200-kilometer area between Aleppo and Raqqa for more than one year, has reportedly been killed in Doudyan village near Azaz town of northern Syria.
He was killed by recent artillery strikes conducted by the Turkish military to help moderate opposition forces in the area.
Another commander of the terrorist group, Abu Dujana, who was responsible for the Turkmen town of Cobanbey in Aleppo, has also been killed in Turkey's artillery strikes.
Both Turkey and the US military command have confirmed Turkish artillery attack on Daesh terrorist group in northern Syria earlier this week.
Turkish Prime Minister Announced on Thursday that Turkish military had attacked 500 Daesh targets and killed at least 200 terrorists in the previous two days.
However, Col. Steve Warren, the spokesman of the US-led anti-Daesh coalition has also confirmed the attack saying, “There were some weather problems; we were having difficulty providing the type of air power we wanted to provide, and the Turks filled in with artillery fire. So it was perfect. It happened the way it was supposed to happen."
Abu Dujana, a 42-year-old Turkish national originally named Necdet Boncuk, has been killed in Kuzulu village of Cobanbey town.
Both Abu Dujana and al-Zarqawi were top-level commanders of the terrorist group who committed several mass executions in Syria.
Dujana was the main commander who led the recent attacks on Turkmen villages in northern Syria and killed hundreds of civilians and forced thousands more to flee their houses.
Zarqawi orchestrated all attacks in Aleppo and Raqqa, strategic cities in Syria; he was the main planner of several mass killings in the area.
