The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq has denounced an attack by PYD, the Syrian affiliate of the terrorist PKK organization, on members of the Kurdish National Council and burning the Kurdish region's flag in northeastern Syria.

On Friday, PYD terrorists dispersed a rally organized by the Kurdish National Council in Amude town in the northeastern Hasakah province to protest PYD practices against civilians in the area.

PYD terrorists attacked the council's headquarters during the protest, leaving some members injured.

In a Sunday statement, the KRG described the attack as “an assault on the Kurdish people" and called on the PYD to halt such assaults.

"PYD has to release the people it has been holding unjustly," the statement said, going on to praise local residents in Amude for rising up against the PYD.

"The future will belong to those who resist peacefully," it said.

Commenting on the PYD attack, KRG President Masoud Barzani said "those who have committed this crime will pay the price."
