President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed citizens in front of his residence in the Kısıklı neighborhood of Istanbul.

“IF THE PARLIAMENT DECIDES TO RESTORE DEATH PENALTY, I WILL SIGN IT INTO LAW”

The crowd gathered in front of his residence was calling for the restoration of death penalty and that the soldiers linked to the Gulenist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) who staged the coup attempt must be executed. President Erdoğan said: “Turkey is a democratic state of law. In a democratic state of law, you cannot ignore people's demands. If the people have such a demand, the place to discuss this is the parliament. I believe this will be discussed in the parliament, which was bombed by these traitors. And the political parties in the parliament will make the best decision on this matter. And I, as the approving authority, will sign it into law because if we, politicians, remain silent in a country where our children have been martyred by tanks and artillery, we cannot answer for our actions in the afterlife. There is death penalty in the US, in Russia, in China and in various countries around the world. Only in EU countries, there is not death penalty. Such a step was taken before us and we signed it. Yes, that is true but just lie it was signed, it can be taken back if our parliament makes that decision. Now, some people are raising different things before us. These are not irrevocable statutes.”

“THERE IS A PLAN ABOVE ALL PLANS”

Recalling that the compound of the Police Special Forces was bombed on July 15 and 47 policemen were martyred and that the building where he was staying was also bombed President Erdoğan noted that the soldiers that attempted the coup said in their statements “If we had been able to catch him [the President], we would have brought him dead or alive.”

Reciting a verse of Quran “They plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners,” President Erdoğan said: “There is a plan above all plans.”

Stating that we will overcome this process and efforts are going on in a very good way, President Erdoğan said: “Our government is in an important preparation and we will convene the National Security Council on Wednesday. After the NSC meeting, we will hold a meeting of the Council of Ministers. We will announce an important decision after these meetings.”

“UNITY AMONG NATIONAL MEDIA OUTLETS”

Answering the calls by the crowd to bring the leader of the FETÖ, who lives in Pennsylvania, US, to Turkey, President Erdoğan stated that extradition request will be submitted this week and said: “I have witnessed unity among our national media outlets save for a few. However, some international media outlets paid visits to Pennsylvania. Now, I would like to address international media outlets: If they interviewed Bin Laden when the twin towers were attacked, what would you think? How can you view those positively who interviewed the person, living on a 400-decare-land you gave him, whose followers attempted a coup in Turkey? I gave an interview to CNN today and I gave this as an example because the world needs to see and know this.”

NEW PROJECTS IN TURKEY

Noting that the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is planned to be opened on August 26 and the Eurasia Tunnel will be inaugurated on December 26, President Erdoğan said projects of the Canal Istanbul is almost completed and preparations for a bridge over the Çanakkale Strait began. Stating that the Topçu Barracks will be rebuilt in Taksim and the first opera house will be build where the Atatürk Culture Center stands now and Taksim Mosque will be built behind the maksem wall.
