US embassy tells its citizens that there are reports of a police investigation into a “terror cell” in Gaziantep, warning of a possible terrorist attack that may be conducted in a mall or a chain frequented by particularly foreigners
The United States has warned of the risk of a terror attack in the southeastern Turkish province of Gaziantep bordering Syria on popular chains or malls especially frequented by Westerners.
The U.S. embassy in Ankara said on Wednesday in a message to citizens that there are reports of a police investigation into a “terror cell" in Gaziantep, which in August was hit by a deadly suicide bombing on a wedding blamed on Daesh terrorists.
"US citizens in Gaziantep are advised to exercise caution when patronizing these sorts of businesses and to avoid them if possible," the notice said.
Previous US warnings were coincidentally followed by attacks.
The United States' previous attack warnings were followed by terrorist attacks in several other provinces.
As many as 38 people were killed in a bomb attack that was conducted in the Kızılay district of Ankara on March 13, only days after the U.S. warned its citizens of terrorist threats in Ankara, Istanbul, Ankara and Adana provinces.
In another Daesh attack that targeted Istanbul's Beyoğlu; the U.S. warned about a terror threat, adding the measures should be ramped up for protecting the German schools and the German Embassy.
The message issued by the U.S. was followed by a Daesh suicide bombing which killed five civilians.
Also, the suicide bombing of April 17 in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa followed another warning from Washington.
A similar warning came from the U.S. shortly before the series of suicide bombings that targeted Istanbul's Atatürk Airport, which left 45 people killed.
Turkey has been under the an increasing amount of attacks from Daesh, along with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and its affiliated groups.
Previously in August, as many as 56 people were killed in a suicide bomber explosion at a wedding in the southeastern Turkish province of Gaziantep.
The attack claimed the highest death toll recently.
