Turkish military jets have destroyed PKK positions and shelters close to the Iraqi border, the military said Wednesday.
A shelter in the mountainous Cukurca district of Hakkari province was hit by warplanes Monday at around 4.50 p.m. local time (1350GMT), the Turkish General Staff said in a statement. A mission on Monday evening in the same area saw jets strike further PKK positions.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year. Since then, PKK terrorist attacks martyred more than 700 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while nearly 8,000 PKK terrorists were killed in army operations.
