Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak announces that the gunman responsible for the Istanbul nightclub attack was most likely Uighur
Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak announced on Thursday that the Istanbul assailant responsible for killing 39 and wounding 65 victims was most likely Uighur.
Kaynak also said that the links of the attacker have been determined, and that his possible locations have also been determined.
“We cannot rule out the possibility of the Istanbul assailant escaping abroad, but the operations in Turkey are likely to achieve results," said Kaynak.
“It is clear that the attack was carried out by one person, but he may have been helped," he continued.
Kaynak also spoke about the Incirlik issue, saying that officials questioned the U.S.-led coalition's presence at the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey.
Turkey has recently expressed its frustration with the lack of U.S. support in operations conducted in Syria. The U.S. backs the PYD, and Turkey has questioned why the U.S. has not lent its support in the latest push into the Syrian city of Al-Bab.
Kaynak said that the issue of the Incirlik air base, used by NATO and the U.S.-led coalition, was on the government's agenda.
