Forty-three Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists were neutralized in Turkey in the context of the ongoing operations against the separatist terror organization, according to a statement by the General Staff.
According to the statement, PKK terrorists were neutralized by operations carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) during August 17- 24, in the southern provinces of Şırnak, Diyarbakır and Hakkari.
The ongoing operations aim to destroy passageways used by the PKK, particularly in Hakkari and Şırnak, to smuggle terrorists in and out of Turkey through areas they occupy in northern Syria.
Several weapons and C4 explosives were seized in the operations targeting the regions of Betyüşşebap, İncebel, Kato Mountain, Silopi and Namaz Mountain in Şırnak, in addition to Diyarbakır and Hakkari’s Yükeskova regions.
Two PKK terrorists were killed in the province of Van after the bomb-loaded car was targeted by the operation carried out by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command.
Additionally, 30 hand grenades were destroyed, along with 14 sanctuaries and caves used by the PKK terrorists that were neutralized in the operation.
Two soldiers were martyred and nine others were wounded in the aftermath of last week’s operations.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
