Daesh terrorist Abdulgadir Masharipov was captured by Turkish police after they spent 16 days reviewing 100,000 hours of security footage
Daesh terrorist Abdulgadir Masharipov, the perpetrator of the deadly attack on an Istanbul nightclub during new year's celebrations, was captured during a police operation on a residence in Istanbul's Esenyurt district on Monday after a review of 100,000 hours of CCTV records by Turkish police over the course of 16 days.
Terrorist Masharipov, who killed 39 people in the nightclub attack, is suspected to have entered Turkey in January 2016.
The operation that concluded with the capture of Masharipov on Monday , included the detention of four other people, including a man of Iraqi origin and three women from Egypt, Somalia, and Senegal.
A total of 50 people were detained and 152 locations raided in operations to find the attacker.
At least 39 people, including a police officer, were killed when an attacker opened fire on civilians at a nightclub in the Ortaköy district of Istanbul in the early hours of New Year's Day; 69 other people were also wounded, with a number of foreign nationals among the casualties.
Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was revenge for Turkish military involvement in Syria.
Before the attack, an online message from a pro-Daesh terrorist group called for attacks by "lone wolves" on "celebrations, gatherings and clubs".
