Atatürk Airport, the main international airport of Turkey's largest city, Istanbul, broke its own air traffic record on Sunday Aug 4, 2016, when a total of 1,454 planes departed and landed, the airport authority said.
While Istanbulites and regional transit passengers await the completion of Istanbul's new Airport in 2018, Istanbul's original, main Atatürk Airport's recorded the highest traffic record, beating its previous record reported on July 10, five days before the deadly coup attempt with 1,443 landings and take-offs.
A record number of local and international passengers used the airport on Sunday, the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHIM) said.
The airport served a total of 14,269 domestic and international passengers, it said.
Istanbul's Atatürk Airport is one of the busiest airports, not only in Turkey but in whole Europe, as the authority expects new record during the Upcoming Eid-al-Adha festival.
