Two Greek fishing boats defied repeated orders from Turkish coast guard to leave Turkish waters
Tensions flared between Greece and Turkey in the Aegean Sea on Friday when a Greek coast guard boat appeared in front of a Turkish coast guard vessel warning that two Greek fishing boats were sailing in Turkish territorial waters.
The fishing boats repeatedly ignored orders from the Turkish coast guard officials. A Greek coast guard boat entered Turkish waters in a response to a call from the fishers.
In a heated stand-off, Turkish and Greek coast guard boats held positions less than two meters apart from each other. The standoff in the Aegean continued for two hours.
The maritime
was resolved peacefully when the fishing boats and coast guard officials returned to Greek waters.
