Rescuers began clearing debris to find potential survivors after multi-story building collapse
A five-story apartment building collapsed in Lapseki town, Çanakkale, in western Turkey.
Ambulances and emergency crews rushed to the scene immediately after the incident.
It is unclear if anyone was inside at the time of the incident. Acting on a tip-off, the official disaster relief agency, AFAD,also sent its crews to the scene to find possible survivors trapped under the debris of the collapsed building.
Officials said there was ongoing construction work on its attachment.
A greater disaster is believed to have been averted, as construction workers warned building residents of a cracking sound at its base, forcing immediate evacuation before its collapse.
