Sources have confirmed that the pilot of a crashed Syrian jet has testified that he was about to strike the northwestern city of Idlib when his plane was shot down in Turkey's Hatay province.
In a statement given to Turkish security personnel, he said that his jet took off from Lattakia to strike opposition-held Idlib, but was shot down during the mission, sources confirmed.
The 56-year-old pilot, who was identified as Mehmet Sufhan, is currently receiving treatment in the Hatay State Hospital after he suffered injuries to his back, legs and face.

Sources also said that the pilot managed to walk for 500 meters from where his parachute set him down after ejecting.
Turkish Deputy PM Nurettin Canikli said the government would decide his fate in the coming days, once they are able to clarify the pilot's mission and determine how he managed to fall inside the Turkish border.
