Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lijian Zhao accused the U.S. Army of bringing the COVID-19 pandemic into Wuhan, China.
Zhao on Thursday shared a video of Robert Redfield, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who said that some Americans who had died from influenza tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the posthumous diagnosis.
By sharing Redfield’s speech, Zhao seemed to hint that the U.S. was responsible for the novel coronavirus which seemingly radiated from China when he tweeted a news article claiming the virus instead originated in the U.S.
“Just take a few minutes to read one more article. This is so astonishing that it changed many things I used to believe in. Please retweet to let more people know about it,“ the caption accompanying his tweet read.
“The U.S. owes us an explanation,” he urged on his twitter account and asked “when did patient zero begin in the U.S.? How many people are infected? Whta are the names of the hospitals?”
“It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data!” Zhao further tweeted.
After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 114 countries.
The global death toll is now over 4,600, with more than 125,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), which has declared the outbreak a pandemic.
