At least 3,000 virus cases reported in Eurasia, Central Asia

Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia report new cases, fatalities

Novel coronavirus infections and deaths continued their upward trend across Eurasia and Central Asia on Friday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine registered 2,723 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 130,951, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 2,761 as 51 more people died of the virus. Most recently 937 people recovered and the nationwide recoveries hit 60,613.

More than 67,500 people are currently receiving medical treatment in Ukraine, where the number of cases has been on the rise since August.

- Uzbekistan

The Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said in a statement that 215 more people contracted the virus and the total count climbed to 42,903, while the total number of fatalities rose to 336 with three new deaths.

The official data showed that another 95 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 40,176, which approximately translates to 93% recovery rate.

A total of 2,391 people are going through medical treatment in the country where some 100,000 people are currently monitored for the infection.

- Armenia

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 190 more people were diagnosed with the disease, pushing the tally to 44,461.

The virus claimed four more lives in the country, raising the total death toll to 891. So far, 39,257 people have recovered from the virus and 4,041 people are currently being treated.

- Kyrgyzstan

Norbolot Usenbayev, the deputy health minister of Kyrgyzstan, said 92 people were diagnosed with the virus in the past 24 hours and the registered cases totaled 44,227.

Usenbayev said 39,426 people recovered from COVID-19 and one died from the virus over the past day.

According to the official, over 4,600 people are receiving treatment and a total of 1,061 people lost their lives to the coronavirus.

- Kazakhstan

The Kazakh Health Ministry confirmed the total number of cases rose to 106,121 with 89 more people contracting the virus in the past 24 hours.

With the recovery of 618 people, total recoveries reached 98,585; death toll stands at 1,612 as six more people died from the disease.

- Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there are 1,637 cases in the country with 28 more additions over the past day.

The number of recoveries reached 1,294 as 15 more people recovered over the past 24 hours. Deaths from the virus stood at 19.

The virus has claimed nearly 869,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December. The US, Brazil and India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 26.31 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 17.53 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
