The world is on red alert against an unseen enemy, the deadly coronavirus pandemic, which has infected more than 1.77 million since its emergence in China's Wuhan in December.

With a microscopic enemy in full swing, over half of the world's population has been ordered to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, while scientists have ramped up studies on treatments and vaccines to halt the spread of the respiratory disease.

Scientific designer and animator Avesta Rastan detailed the effects COVID-19 has on our lungs, revealing the mechanics behind how the virus causes pneumonia in its victims, in a chart published by Azuravesta Design.

The novel coronavirus, officially called Sars-CoV-2, can invade the body through your eyes, nose, and mouth. It can also spread from person-to-person within 6 feet through respiratory droplets.
