Istanbul public transport authority starts a new technologically equipped smart bus stop system to improve quality of mega city's public transport
A new model of the bus stop, smart stops, has been launched by the Istanbul Electricity Tramway and Tunnel (IETT) management authority as a new step to ease the transportation of Istanbul residents.
The first “smart stop" was established in front of Yıldız Technical University on Barbaros Boulevard, in the busy and often congested Beşiktaş district of the city.
The concept stop includes all technological innovations including digital information board on LED/LCD roof, ticket machine, press-speak unit, subunits for charging disabled vehicles and free Wifi services.
The smart stop can automatically recharge itself from on-roof solar panels.
Passengers would be able to charge their phones while waiting for their buses as well as receive information about the exact position of the buses' time of arrival from a real-time information board.
The press-speak unit is developed especially for disabled passengers who can get real-time information from the transport management center though this service.
The project “Concept Smart Stop" is expected to be applied in other neighborhoods in the near future.
Istanbul Transportation Authority has begun implementing a huge passenger information and fleet management system for public transportation services.
