Turkish actor Cavit Çetin Güner, who played Dogan Alp in the globally-popular historical drama “Resurrection: Ertugrul,” posted an Instagram story apologizing to disappointed fans for canceling a planned visit to his "second home" Pakistan.

The Turkish actor revealed that he was forced to postpone the trip after the entire travel plan, which was organized by a Pakistani lawyer living in Turkey, turned out to be a scam.

“I apologize to the Pakistanis. In Turkey, I met a man named Musawair Abbasi, who was a lawyer, and we talked and agreed on a business plan. However, later I found out that the business plan was fake, and Musawir Abbasi lied,” Güner wrote in Urdu on the social networking site.

“We have a mutual love with Pakistani people, but due to current circumstances I won’t be able to visit Pakistan. I believe that I will meet trustworthy people and meet you soon,” he added.

Earlier, the 34-year-old actor had announced that he would soon pay a visit to Pakistan, referring to the country as his “second home.”

Often described as the Turkish Game of Thrones, the series depicts the 13th century Anatolia and tells the story before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. It illustrates the struggle of Ertugrul Gazi, father of the empire's first leader.

Ertugrul Gazi surged to fame in Pakistan when Prime Minister Imran Khan endorsed the series and said watching it would promote "Islamic history and ethics" among the country's youth.

Its popularity further increased since the national broadcaster PTV began airing Urdu-dubbed episodes of the show in April.

The series has also inspired Pakistan to erect statues of Ertugrul Ghazi in a residential area of Lahore
