Following an attack on an Iranian truck inside Turkey, the Iranian transport authority declared it's closing the outgoing border crossing to Turkey, but not the incoming crossing

Iran shut its main border post to Turkey after an Iranian truck was torched on Tuesday inside Turkish territory, Iran's road traffic authority said on Wednesday.

“Following a new attack yesterday evening on an Iranian truck in Turkey, the Bazargan border post into the country has been closed,” said Davoud Keshavarzian, head of Iran's Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, in a statement published on the transport ministry website.

The statement did not specify who carried out the attack from where or how the driver was able to secure his life.

Keshavarzian stated the border was closed upon Turkey's request and the crossing from Turkey to Iran remains open.

The statement said that Keshvarzian talked with Turkish ambassador in Tehran Rıza Hakan Tekin and requested the Turkish government to ensure the safety of Iranian drivers.

More than 71,000 trucks have passed through Gürbulak-Bazargan, located in northwestern Iran, since the beginning of the Iranian fiscal year on March 20.
