There are certain groups trying to use the crash of a military helicopter belonging to the Azerbaijani State Border Service for political purposes, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev told journalists on Wednesday, Trend News Agency reported.

“It is unacceptable to use this tragedy for political purposes,” Aliyev said during a visit to Kyiv, adding that those spreading rumors would be punished.

"The most stringent measures will be taken against these people,” Aliyev said.

An Azerbaijani border patrol helicopter crashed on Tuesday during a training mission, killing 14 soldiers and injuring two others on board, said an official statement.

“On my behalf and behalf of the staff of the General Prosecutor's Office, I express condolences to the families and relatives of those killed in the crash of the Mi-17 helicopter of the State Border Service, which was conducting a training flight,” Aliyev said.

The prosecutor general stressed that a criminal case into the crash of the military helicopter has been initiated.
