Russian president meets Kazakh counterpart in Astana

Kazakh, Russian leaders discuss cooperation, future prospects for development of relations in tourism industry

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana on Friday.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed key issues of cooperation and future prospects for the development of relations in the field of tourism, according to a statement by Kazakhstan's presidency.

"President of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of cooperation in the tourism industry in the context of cultural and economic interaction," the statement read.

Nazarbayev also noted the productive nature of the last session of the council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Leaders of Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan gathered on Thursday in the capital Astana for a one-day summit.

Putin, for his part, stressed that Kazakhstan is one of the main trade and economic partners of Russia, stressing the intensive speed of bilateral relations.

He also pointed to "big potential" for further deepening the cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism.

Following the meeting, the presentation on the development project Baikonur Cosmodrome spaceport was introduced to the leaders.

The presidents were also informed about the progress of the construction of social facilities, the results of the repair of infrastructure networks as well as the gasification of residential areas in Baikonur city.

Both leaders will attend the 15th Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum on Friday.
