Bogazici University to host international law conference in Istanbul

Türkiye's Bogazici University will host an international law conference in Istanbul on July 5-6, focusing on justice and reconstruction in post-conflict societies.

The two-day event, titled the Bogazici International Law Conference (BILC 2025), is organized by the university's Faculty of Law and will take place at the historic Albert Long Hall on the school's South Campus.

Bogazici University Rector Prof. Mehmet Naci Inci and Law Faculty Dean Prof. Ali Emrah Bozbayindir will open the conference, which aims to address the challenges of applying international law and its evolving role in global justice.

Keynote speakers include Richard Falk, former UN special rapporteur and professor emeritus at Princeton University, and Dr. Siba N'Zatioula Grovogui, professor of international law at Cornell University.

Academics from institutions such as Leiden University, King's College London, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, the University of Ottawa and the University of Pretoria are expected to participate.

Panel discussions will explore topics including international criminal law, refugee reintegration, constitutional transitions, economic recovery, and environmental restoration in post-conflict settings.

Highlighted sessions include "Post-Conflict International Criminal Law and Artistic Approaches," led by Prof. Carsten Stahn, "Legal and Social Reintegration of Refugees," moderated by Prof. Satvinder Juss, and "Post-Conflict International Investment Law and State Continuity," featuring Prof. Patrick Dumberry.

Former UN special rapporteur Prof. Hilal Elver will also speak on environmental damage and food security in the aftermath of conflict.

Bozbayındir said the conference aims to evaluate the role international law can play in rebuilding societies and to foster academic and professional exchange across disciplines.
