Mehmet Yılmaz, who went to Bosphorus Bridge as a reaction to the coup attempt by the Gülenist Terrorist Organization on July 15, was martyred by the vicious plotters. The martyr, who talked to his wife on phone around 01.30, to whom he said “May God watch over you.” was shot dead in his back.
The martyr’s wife Ayşegül Yılmaz stated, “When I talked to him on the phone, the bridge was not blocked. So, my husband was one of the many who made it to the bridge first. After he got there, my husband tried to soothe his friends and calm the situation. He reportedly said to his friends, ‘Police are taking caution, calm down.’
“He always wanted to meet God”
The martyr’s wife stated, “My heart is fine, he lived in such way that it was as if his body was here, but his soul was with god. He always wanted to meet God. He familiarized us with this idea all the time. He would say, ‘I trust God’s blessing from my heart.’He was awarded the best for his devotion to God. I am proud of him.”
Martyr Mehmet Yılmaz was buried in the Karacaahmet Cemetery, after a funeral prayer was held at the Üsküdar Kirazlıtepe Mosque.
The martyr’s name was given to a primary school in Birecik, Şanlıurfa, and to an Imam Hatip middle school in Kastamonu.
