Coronavirus infections in Eurasia cross 12,000

Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan report spike in cases

Eurasian nations are witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases with the tally crossing the 12,000 mark.

In Russia, the total number of cases stands at 7,497, according its health authority. Fifty-eight people have died so far, and 494 have recovered.

In Ukraine, the number of cases increased by 143, bringing the total to 1,462, according to a statement by the country’s Health Ministry.

The death toll in the country has risen to 45, while 28 patients have recovered so far.

In Moldova, two more people died of COVID-19, raising the death toll to 21. Some 965 cases have been reported in the country.

In Kazakhstan, the number of cases increased by 56, bringing the total to 685. So far, six people have died in the country.

To avert the outbreak, the provinces of Karaganda, Taraz and Korday are under lockdown.

In Kyrgyzstan, the number of cases increased by 12, bringing the total to 228, Health Minister Sabirjan Abdikarimov announced.

He added that 17 health workers have contracted the virus.

Four people have died from the virus and 33 have recovered.

In Georgia, the number of cases rose by seven, bringing the total to 195, head of Tbilisi Infection Hospital Marina Ezurgbaia said.

In Armenia, 20 new cases were reported, bringing the total to 853. The death toll has climbed to eight, while 87 people have recovered.

In Uzbekistan, 75 more people contracted the virus, raising the tally of cases to 472.

Two people have died and 30 recovered in the country.
