English club Liverpool beat Portuguese powerhouse Porto FC 2-0 Tuesday as the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals got underway.

Hosts Liverpool got off to the perfect start, with Naby Keita scoring the first goal in the fifth minute. His right-footed effort deflected off Porto midfielder Oliver Torres and looped past goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Brazilian international Roberto Firmino was left with a simple finish from close range to score Liverpool's second goal in the 26th minute.

English clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City also met, with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris saving a penalty shot by striker Sergio Aguero in the 13th minute.

Tottenham's Son Heung-min was the savior as he scored a goal in the 78th minute to end the game at 1-0 to gain an advantage over Manchester City before the second-leg match next week.

The both second-leg matches will be played on April 17.

On Wednesday, Ajax will take on Juventus while Manchester United will face Barcelona at home in UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg matches.
