Turkish military has shelled YPG terrorist targets near the town of Azaz in northern Syria

Turkish military has shelled YPG terrorist targets near the town of Azaz in northern Syria. The reports said Turkey has hit areas belonging to the People's Protection Unit (YPG), which has encircled Azaz town of Aleppo. The troops are using Turkish-made Fırtına howitzers, according to reports.

Turkey's military campaign came as a response to increasing assaults on Azaz in the last 48 hours. PYD-linked armed groups have entrenched assaults in Aleppo's town with the help of Russian air forces.

Kurdish armed groups have managed to run over Shat village, only 500 metres from Azaz. PYD's armed groups were shelling the besieged Azaz town with heavy weapons.

The PKK's Syrian off-shoot YPG is currently deployed 500 meters from central parts of Azaz, standing just across from Kilis province on the Turkish side.

Some reports said one of the targets is a YPG military headquarters, only one kilometre from Maranaz village, near the airbase.

The air base, only six kilometres from Azaz, was serving as military headquarters to Syrian rebel forces before it fell into the YPG's hands.

The ambition to control the crucial base has often led to clashes between Free Syrian Army (FSA), the largest opposition group fighting in Syria.

The PYD-linked Kurdish armed groups have marched to the area that Turkey wanted to see become a safe zone on the Turkish-Syrian border between the border town of Jarabulus to another town on the border, Marea.
