Turkish police on Wednesday arrested 30 people over their alleged links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey, said security sources.

The arrests came after Istanbul prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 31 suspects as part of a probe into the terror group, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

In simultaneous anti-terror operations at 29 addresses in Istanbul, police also seized €17,515 ($21,175) and nearly 7,000 Turkish liras ($990).

Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect are ongoing.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
